RE: Why effects of LDR differ from metabolism

Ted,

Again, I have read a large body of the literature and am skeptical of the

results that you think are so important. Posting a number of selected

articles and references while ignoring others that dispute the claims is

biased reporting.

I do believe we can say there is no harmful effects, and that is about which

we need to educate the public. You are trying to convince the public low

doses of radiation are good. That will be a trough row to hoe. I think

people would like to see limits rather than purported benefits. At least

the NRC public dose limits is making headway.

John:

Perhaps it's a subtle point, but I believe the data demonstrate that we know

with a high degree of certainty that LDR can have no detrimental effects and

may have beneficial effects, depending on the circumstances.

The statement I disagree with is that LDR probably has a detrimental effect

but it's too small to worry about. I disagree, first, because I think we

know that it is not detrimental. And second, because many people will react

"well, you may not want to worry about it, but I want to decide for myself

whether I wish to accept the damage that you want to brush off."

I think the positions are quite different, in determining policy and

actions.

But John, until you have examined the data that you scorn and evaluated it

in detail, I don't think your opinions and speculations on the subject

deserve much consideration.
