I've been waiting to see a response to your request; maybe
you've received some privately. You asked about current information, but the
last excellent article I saw on the topic appeared (I believe) in the ANS
Journal about eight years ago. Quite comprehensive, and pointed out that
the arguments against it today are the same ones effectively refuted in the
'30s. The last I heard, when irradiated strawberries are sold in Chicago next to
unirradiated strawberries, the irradiated disappear much more quickly--consumers
know they have a longer shelf life. And one of the major benefits of course is
that we would lose much less of the one-third of the world's food supplies
currently lost to spoilage. But like radioactive waste disposal, it's not a
health or technology issue, it's a politics/ignorance/emotions
issue.
My opinions only, of course.
