RE: a miniature linear accelerator - smaller than a breadbox?

Hi all,

Wanted to clarify what the CyberKnife is since it definitely isn't a CT

unit. The CyberKnife is a stereotactic radiosurgery system which

incorporates a 6 MV X-band linac. The business end of the linac with

the accelerator structure ("x-ray head") is mounted on a large 6 degree

of freedom robot which allows the system to shoot at tumors, etc. from

many angles. Since the linac is X-band, the x-ray head is small when

compared to the comparable part of an S-band system. So while it would

certainly hurt if it fell on your foot, it is relatively miniature...

George,

You can find more about it at http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/pdf/k011024.pdf.

It

sounds more like a CT unit.
