While you are reviewing reference material for laypersons, check out the Guide to the Nuclear Wall Chart at <<http://www.lbl.gov/nsd/education/ABC/wallchart/guide.html>>. This is a fundamental guide to nuclear science designed for teachers. It may be reviewed online or downloaded in a .pdf format. I find it quite informative.
