Health Physics Position



Health Physicist



The University of Louisville seeks a well qualified and motivated professional to work with other Radiation Safety staff to monitor the use of radioactive material for adherence to university, federal, state and local radiation safety policy and procedure. The University of Louisville is expanding research efforts, especially biomedical research. This expansion will offer a candidate a challenging work environment and the opportunity for growth as a radiation safety professional. 



The university's radiation safety program, which is part of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, has responsibility for a main campus and a health science campus with a teaching hospital, cancer center and biomedical research laboratories. The university operates under two licenses, a broad medical, and a broad academic.  



The Health Physicist will audit research and teaching labs, maintain a radiation safety database, calibrate survey instruments, respond to incidents involving radioactive material, and perform other health physics duties as assigned. 



The position requires a B.S. degree in health physics or related field and three years related experience or equivalent. The candidate must have knowledge of current radiation regulations and standards of practice. Previous experience with medical and/or research uses of radioactive material in an academic setting a plus. Facility with personal computer based HP Assistant and Microsoft OFFICE97 software is highly desirable. Eligibility for certification in Health Physics by the American Board of Health Physics is desirable. Applicant must be able to perform all essential job functions as identified in the position description. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
