RE: Reactor Containments and Terrorist Attacks
Here's an interesting quote (verbatim), of some relevance to the subject of
this thread, concerning the 1,800-foot high concrete-and-steel CN Tower in
Toronto, which is (was ?) the world's tallest free-standing structure
:
What would happen, the Toronto building
commissioner wanted to know, if a fully loaded 747 hit the Tower ? ( Back came
the reply from the Tower's dynamic analysis expert, Dr. Bruno Thurlimann of
Zurich, Switzerland: it would be tough on the 747 -- but damage to the Tower
would be minimal.)
...from the 29 June 1974
issue of The Canadian Magazine, a weekend supplement of the Montreal Gazette, in
an article by David Cobb, "Giving Toronto the Needle," pp. 12 to 14, plus
cover.
Superficially, photos show the construction to be
similar to that of reactor containment domes & internal walls, with steel
rebar reinforced concrete....
