     The Radiation Safety Office of the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center

is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join its team of

radiation safety professionals as a Junior Physicist, under the general

supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer and/or Assistant Radiation

Safety Officer. The successful candidate for this visible and responsible

position will assist in the continuing development, implementation and

maintenance of a broad-license, academic and medical radiation safety

program.



Specific duties of this Columbia University Officer level position include

but are not limited to the following:



*	Assure CPMC and NYSPI compliance with all applicable New York City, New

York State and Federal regulations regarding 	the use, storage, receiving,

shipping and disposal of radioactive materials.

*	Conduct and document radiation safety surveys and QA surveys for all

diagnostic radiographic equipment under the 	purview of the Radiation Safety

Office

*	Plan, schedule and perform audits, surveys and inspections of clinical

departments, analytical X-ray suites, research 	laboratories and all

University and Hospital facilities using or proposing to use radioactive

materials or sources of 	radiation.

*	Conduct ALARA reviews and investigations.

*	Assist in radioactive waste management and personnel dosimeter programs.

*	Provide radiation safety support and in-service training to medical,

nursing and scientific personnel.

*	Perform sealed source leak tests and inventory management.

*	Survey instrument calibration.

*	Maintain and develop RSO management software and other computer programs.

*	Provide physics support for the CPMC cyclotron and the associated

radiochemical and radiopharmaceutical production 	labs. In this capacity,

the successful candidate will be responsible for insuring compliance with

CPMC's New York State 	Department of Environmental Conservation Permit for

the discharge of radioactive effluents to the environment.







Qualifications: This position requires an M.S. in health physics, medical

physics or physics with two years of progressive experience in applied

health physics; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and

experience. Excellent verbal, written and personal communications skills are

required. Computer support and project management skills, including the

ability to maintain and develop RSO management software and the RSO website,

are highly desirable.
