RE: Terrorist and nuclear plants - and office buildings
Title: RE: Terrorist and nuclear plants
One thing I noticed
after hearing predictions of thousands of deaths following a WTC-type attack
against a NPP, by people like NCI's Leventhal, is that none of them has
suggested that high-rise office building construction standards adopt those used
for the construction of reactor containment domes. Now THAT would be something
positive, that could actually save thousands of lives. True, it would be
horrendously expensive to build them like that, but since when are these people
concerned about costs ? ....indeed, it is their objective to raise the costs of
building nukes & make their economics as unattractive as possible to
potential investors. How about spending money where it will actually do some
good ??
Its interesting also,
that the new PBMR gas turbine reactor design eyed for likely near-term future
construction, has been criticized for not having a containment dome -- when in
fact it is only the pressure-retaining function that is absent from the design
(since its not needed) -- while the protection against external missile threats
remains.
