RE: Rad Worker Layoff??

Back in the day,

Master Chief emerged from the Reactor Refueling Access- first day back from

an extended shore leave. Chief's wife had had a diagnostic procedure. He

managed to set off all the eberlines at embarrassing locations. Reaction

initially was a potential Karen Silkwood decon, but cooler heads prevailed

-- did not even tell Admiral Rickover. But we had some sea story. Time to

get back to reality. Mailrooms are all agitated. Miss the days with

Controlled Surface Contamination Areas and real time instrumentation and the

ability to do whole body counts quickly. Sure was comforting to assure

workers quickily and keep contamination where it belonged. Take care.

Tom,

In commercial nuclear plants, a worker who had a therapeutic (or even a

diagnostic

procedure) generally would be re-assigned to non-radiological area. In my

opinion, if

an employer laid off a worker due to a medical procedure, that employer

would be

open to litigation for the layoff. Kind of heartless as well.
