Re: Union of Concerned Scientists

Dear Dr Cohen,

Of course I ran this by Dave Lochbaum and here's what he said:

"UCS is neither pro-nuke nor anti-nuke.At times UCS has indeed agreed with Nader or

one of Nader's organizations on safety issues. We have also agreed with NEI or one

of its predecessor organizations on issues.

The ECCS matter to which Dr. Cohen refers happened long before I joined UCS. In

reviewing UCS's files on that matter, the TMI case, and numerous other matters over

the years, the primary pattern is that UCS concluded that safety was being, or

about to be, compromised and advocated for the restoration of safety margins. That

restoration could either be via a plant shut down or plant repair, the owner's

choice.

UCS continues to pursue that approach to nuclear safety."

Why don't we stick to safety issues and not bad mouth the messenger?
