I think John is correct. SEER does not derive their data from county
estimates, but obtain it from thorough reviews of cancer pathology
labs and other sources. However, the data is of high quality and can
provide good data for ecologic studies. I was reading the Smith,
Field and Lynch report on Dr. Cohen's data and when they used the
SEER data from Iowa, Cohen's inverse association disappeared. It
looks like Lynch is the head of the Iowa SEER Program.
