Re: Fw: Fw: Ship Yard Workers - John Boice

A deficiency of BOTH Vitamin D and sunlight causes rickets.  The vitamin D is itself a low dose-hormesis/high dose-damage case.  Too much Vitamin D causes excessively rapid bone growth. resulting in premature closing of the fontanelle in infants and causing brain damage.  It's known as "Vitamin D Toxicity" and was discovered when I worked in the U. of Colorado Medical School 1965-67, and is the reason most food is no longer fortified with Vitamin D.

A much more common skin cancer caused by overexposure to UV-B in sunlight is basal cell skin cancer.
