RE: Natural Radioactive Isotopes in Diesel Exhaust

Hi Ruth,

But of course fossil sources of carbon are depleted in C-14. (C-14 in

the atmosphere from natural cosmic ray production is being reduced in

concentration from the burning of fossil fuels :-)

The NORM in coal comes from the uranium content of coal, and there

wouldn't

be any uranium in refined product. there would be some C-14 from the

natural

abundance of C-14, just as in any organic compound or inorganic carbon

compound (wood, gasoline, sugar, carbon dioxide). health effects from

diesel

exhauist are from CO, and the effects of radiocarbon monoxide would be

negligible (the amount of CO needed to kill you doesn't contain enough

C-14

to do anything).
