Portable XRF employ a low energy photon source with an activity usually in  the range of 40 MBq to 40 GBq (1/1000 mCi)

and common sources include Fe-55, Co-57, Cd-109, Pm-147 (brem), Gd-153, Pu-238, Am-241.

The most Comun activities usually use Cd-109 (400 MBq/10 mCi); Fe-55 (800 MBq/20mCi - 2 GBq/50 mCi); Co-57 (200 MBq/5 mCi); Am-241(800 MBq/20 mCi - 1.2 GBq/30 mCi)
