Radon progeny measurements can be affected by
smoke. For active alpha track detectors:
1. Smoke can plug the filter
which collects the progeny (i.e. less air is sampled).
2. Smoke can stop some of the
alpha's from the progeny collected on the filters from reaching the detector.
(I've seen > 1 mm layers of aerosol on a filter, but that would be an
exception.)
The studies that have been discussed on radsafe
used radon GAS measurements (exclusively?) I don't know how these are
affected.
