Magnetic fields in cars
I am sorry that this totally irresponsible massmedial fallout is in Swedish
- not because of its "entertainment value" but because it is serious - a
most likely non-existing but headlined hypothetical risk may divert money
resources to the vultures that can get a good meal from this while obvious
and real problems will be forgotten:

Don't miss the illustration of "radiation" in the picture - it could just as
well been an artistic or engineering description of some atomic bomb
explosion.
The "information" provided tells something like: "To sit in a car is just as
dangerous as standing under a power line. Inside the cars there are extreme
magnetic field strengths - up to eighty times higher than normal. Much lower
fields have been shown to cause childhood leukemias and miscarriages."

There is a reference to a newly published Californian study where it has
been found that pregnant women had miscarriages after exposure to magnetic
field environments above 1.6 microtesla. (I am interested in this reference
if any Radsafer can help)
A preofessor mentioned in the article talks about pregnant women and that
children are particularly sensitive. He has to my knowledge a physics
background. If you break a leg you don't go to a gynecologist or expert on
liver transplantations - I guess most people understand this.

(the man on the picture got problems with his left foot and suggests that it
was because of magnetic fields in his car - he has measured 17.8 microtesla
right there if I recall a text legend correctly...)
1.6 microtesla, 17.8 microtesla, a few years ago it was 140 nanotesla (TV
program about magnetic fields in cars) that was dangerous. Aren't you
impressed by the precision? Why should I panic if no studies convincingly
can show cancer induction at tens or hundreds of microtesla levels? (I
probably exposed myself to tesla levels BTW - just for the fun of it - 30
years ago at a biomedical laboratory - I did indeed see these light flashes
- and obviously still live - but admit that this statistics is weak... :-).
My personal initiative & reflections only,
