On the cover: A gummed-film sampler on the rooftop of the USAEC Health and Safety Laboratory (now the USDOE Environmental Measurements Laboratory) in New York City. During the 1950's, the Laboratory operated a network ranging between 100 and 250 of these samplers in the U.S. and other countries to monitor fallout from nuclear weapon tests.
