Boeing Job Opportunity - Requisition No. 02-1003745



There is an immediate need for a Radiation Safety Specialist at Boeing's Santa Susana Field Laboratory in Southern California.  The position will support the Department of Energy's radiological cleanup program.

Job Description

A position is open for a Radiation Safety Specialist (Level 2) at Rocketdyne's Santa Susana Field Laboratory, part of The Boeing Company.  The candidate will be a member of the Radiation Safety department of Rocketdyne's Safety, Health & Environmental Affairs.  Activities performed by the Radiation Safety department include occupational and environmental
radiation protection, oversight of DOE remediation projects, measurement and reporting of environmental monitoring data to agencies, and implementation of radiological surveys for facility/site characterization and final release for unrestricted use.

Job Skills & Qualifications

Familiarity with some of the following is preferred.  Environmental and low level radwaste sample counting and analysis with a laboratory Canberra Gamma MCA/Spectrometer.  Use of portable ISOCS gamma spectroscopy systems.  Use of field radiation instrumentation and environmental air monitoring systems.  Familiarity with environmental regulations including DOE 5400.5 and 10 CFR 834.  Familiarity with DOE, NRC and EPA guides for final radiological release surveys including MARSSIM.  Familiarity with radiological environmental software including CAP88PC, Microshield,  and RESRAD.  Good communication skills (written and verbal) and good omputer skills are required.  Training will be provided as needed.

Required Education

BS degree (or higher) in health physics, nuclear engineering, or an equivalent engineering or scientific field, with at least 6 years relevent experience.

Additional Information

The candidate will be required to pass a Radiation Worker medical exam including a drug test prior to employment.  Salary will be based on factors including education, qualifications and length and scope of relevant experience.  Median salary for a Level 2 Radiation Safety Specialist in the Southern California area is $53,850.
