Nuclear Fuel

May 13, 2002

Davis, CA

Dear Ruth:

Making nuclear fuel using plutonium and non-fissile depleted uranium will

result addition fissile plutonium being produced during the nuclear energy

cycle. Reprocessing of used fuel elements to recover the new and old

plutonium for reuse is an important part of my statement that we already

have enough fuel to power the whole century. That is, no more uranium

mining will be needed if we use make and recover the new fissile material

produced in the reactor. It may also be desirable to build breeder reactors

to optimize this process.
