Vacant Position, Medical Health Physicist

Michigan State University is advertising a senior Health Physicist
position, hoping to hire someone to start this summer. I am looking for a
person with Medical HP experience, as shown in the posting below.
This person will oversee a new PET center that will be operational summer
2003, currently in design phase. There will be two cyclotrons, one for FDG
and one for research isotopes, a radiopharmacy, PET/CT imaging suite and
micro PET area. In the next couple of years, we may become a medical NRC
licensee, which will make MSU a Type A Medical Braod Scope licensee. Also,
currently in planning phase is a Veterinary medical LINAC.

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in health physics, medical physics, or other
applicable science degree; more than one year of related and progressively
more responsible or expansive work experience in managing high exposure
situations from multi-curie sources and cyclotron health physics; knowledge
and understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and licenses
pertaining to medical use of radiation in humans and animals; understanding
of radiation theory, risk, and effects; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
DESIRED: experience in medical health physics, nuclear medicine, and
radiopharmaceutical administrations in humans; experience in a radio
pharmaceutical production facility; regulatory experience in managing
radioactive materials licenses; strong communication and listening skills;
demonstrated team player; ability to make decisions under pressure.
BASIC FUNCTION: responsible for assisting with the development,
implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive radiation safety program
for medical radiation use in humans and animals; reports administratively
to the MSU Radiation Safety Officer; monitors and inspects radiation use in
humans; monitors and inspects radiopharmaceutical production cyclotron(s);
monitors and inspects radiopharmaceutical processing; monitors and inspects
radiopharmaceutical patient administrations; monitors, inspects, and
reports radiation risk in work areas and effluents; evaluates, implements,
and monitors safety and compliance for treatment and imaging protocols;
trains and oversees safety for workers and approved users for radiation use
in humans; monitors and ensures compliance with all applicable state and
federal regulations activities; evaluates radiation risks and develops
protective measures; maintains records of safety and compliance for
radiation use in humans; identifies, evaluates, and ensures correction of
radiation safety violations and hazards; responds to abnormal occurrences
and emergencies; measures radiation (target rooms/public areas,
environmental); maintains radiation instruments; manages dosimetry program
for radiation use in humans; participates in oversight committees for
radiation use in humans; interacts with administrators, staff, and patients
in order to ensure radiation safety program success.
