Regarding the proposals to
change the format you may consider creating a moderated USENET group. This can
exist simultaneously with a mailing list, provides thread tracking capabilities,
and can even be accessed through some web portals.
Granted it lacks the fancy
animations of web browsing sites but I consider that a plus.
