Melodramatic? Possibly.  Perhaps there was an awareness of verified threats

along the route that justified arming the escorts (not everyone shares our

support to have DB on the grid again).  Nonetheless, projecting a protective

image to the public is worthwhile, particularly when you've been in the news

like DB has.
