Re: Victims

Sandy's information is correct.

According with Japanese tradition every year members of the families put a

number of new books under an arch-shaped cenotaph in the park listing the

names of the people newly recognized as A-bomb victims by the city

government since Aug. 6 of the preceded year. Look this year at Hiroshima

2002, Peace Issues:

Hiroshima marks 57th anniversary of atomic-bombing

............................

The 50-minute ceremony started at 8 a.m. with Akiba and two representatives

of A-bomb victims' family put two books under an arch-shaped cenotaph in the

park which list names of 4,977 people newly recognized as A-bomb victims by

the city government since Aug. 6 last year.

......................

The number of victims from the atomic bombing in the city totaled 226,870 as

of Monday. The blast and its aftereffects killed an estimated 140,000 people

by the end of 1945.

Subject: Victims

Hi All,

Does anyone see something wrong with this quote from

Sandy's e-mail about the anniversary of hiroshima?

"The number of victims from the atomic bombing in the

city totaled

226,870 as of Monday. The blast and its aftereffects

killed an

estimated 140,000 people by the end of 1945."

Of the additional "victims" that passed away (86870),

did not anyone die of a heart attack? Or if they died

from cancer - how can they attribute the bomb as a

cause?

Any thoughts?

Tom
