from All Things Considered, Thursday, August 15, 2002
At present, a single U.S. company supplies all the enriched uranium that nuclear power stations use as fuel. The company announced recently that it plans to replace its 50-year-old facility, which is becoming obsolete and expensive to run. At the same time, a European consortium has also announced plans to build an enriched uranium plant in the United States. But as Dan Charles reports, if the U.S. company loses out to the European competition, America's nuclear power industry could wind up depending on a foreign supplier. (6:00)
