Radiation Detection Eqipment Calibration Labs

The following questions concern requirements and industry standards for set-up and operation of portable radiation detection equipment calibration labs.  I have been out of this area for about 5 years and wanted to catch up on the industry standards and current practices.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

1.  Are there any Agreement State or NRC requirements for operating an instrument calibration lab (lab accreditation, lab manager qualifications, etc) other than the requirement to license the radioactive sources?

2.  Do labs routinely participate in intercomparison programs to ensure instruments calibrated at the facility are within acceptable error ranges and what are the names of the businesses that provide the intercomparison programs for portable instruments?

3.  What is the current status of the laboratory accreditation standard the Health Physics Society was working on back in the early 1990's?

4.  Is anyone currently dissatisfied with their current instrument calibration service and why (accuracy problems, documentation problems, slow turn-around time, costs, etc.)?

5.  Is there a lab you would like to recommend because you have received quality services?
