Irradiated product detector

Radsafers:

There is a new(?) product being advertised as a device that can detect if

product has been irradiated. I have heard the Europeans in particular are

subjecting food to this test with the obvious implication. It is called the

"SURRC pulsed photo stimulated luminescence system" and has the following

website: http://www.gla.ac.uk/centres/surrc/luminescence/psl.html

The information says,"During the measurements the sample is stimulated with

a pulsed Infra-Red (IR) source, and UV-VIS Anti-Stokes Luminescence is

measured with exceptional sensitivity using a patented digital lock-in

photon counting method. Irradiated samples produce a specific signal which

is detected and quantified."

It would seem that this device would, if it works at all, be high in false

positives.

On the web page I could not help but notice that every reference paper has

the same guy as primary author. By his email address it seems he is also

associated with the developer/seller. I am in the process of

getting/reviewing the references.

Anyone with first hand information on this thing or its European or

international use?

Regards, Doug
