The 1999 RAND review, A Review of the Scientific
Literature As It Pertains to Gulf War Illness, did not say that the battlefields
would be unusable. Did you also hear what they might be used for?

The DU issue is a hot one--I've heard it stated that some of the
battlefields in the former Yugoslavia will be unusable for thousands of years
because of the DU munitions that were used
there.
