Re: Re :LNT and educating the public

Hi, John,

Alas, the science doesn't filter down to the water cooler or irate email threads.

What I recall hearing in discussions from several sources was that we had tainted the battlefields in Yugoslavia with DU and the implication was that it was highly radioactive.

Most conversations (how "conventional wisdom" about politics and such gets passed on) doesn't bother waving about RAND studies. I think this should change. This information needs to be more accessible and responsible media need to put this type of information out.

Although I work in broadcasting I disassociate myself from any content discussions...and generally don't watch the product. This season, "Everwood" on the WB is an exception. It's almost as quirky as "Northern Exposure."

Cheers,

Richard

The 1999 RAND review, A Review of the Scientific Literature As It Pertains to Gulf War Illness, did not say that the battlefields would be unusable. Did you also hear what they might be used for?

The DU issue is a hot one--I've heard it stated that some of the battlefields in the former Yugoslavia will be unusable for thousands of years because of the DU munitions that were used there.
