>From the 11/23/02 Tri-City Herald:
"Delegates to the Washington Farm Bureau's annual meeting this week adopted
a resolution supporting efforts to save Hanford's Fast Flux Test Facility.
"The resolution called the reactor the Department of Energy's newest and
most versatile and said it could be used for making high-quality isotopes
for medical applications, improved food safety through irradiation and
protection against bioterrorism through the irradiation of mail.
"Isotopes also are used in agricultural research to develop ways to increase
yields and improve food quality while decreasing reliance on pesticides and
herbicides."
