With the proliferation of portable spectroscopy
devices to first responders it becomes very important that they become properly
trained. Recently there was an incident where the portable spectroscopy
device reported a high level of Co-57. It turned out that the package was a
typical, well shielded, 5 Ci Mo-99 generator. The spectrometer was
interpreting the Mo-99 Compton's as Co-57.
