RE: MEDHP-SEC: I-131 capsules
John,
You may get more definitive information but I briefly worked at Benedict
Nuclear Pharmacy where they made I-123 capsules for imaging and up take.
They bought capsules, filled them with confectioner's [high grade powdered'
sugar and dispensed the I-123 by volume. As far as I know only friction
held the capsules together and until now I never heard of any capsule
separating.

Subject: MEDHP-SEC: I-131 capsules
During a recent administration of sealed capsules for a cancer ablation, the
top of the I-131 pill popped off. No kidding.
1. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
2. Has anyone had experience with the material coming out of a capsule?
3. How are the capsules made? Does the manufacturing process preclude the
NaI from coming out of a capsule?
