About us: NAVSEADET RASO is a one-of-a-kind office
affiliated with NAVSEASYSCOM Headquarter's Radiological Controls Program
(SEA-04N) and the Naval Radiation Safety Committee (OPNAV N45). Our primary goal is to ensure radiation
safety throughout the Navy and Marine Corps worldwide, exclusive of the Naval
Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP).
NAVSEADET RASO is responsible for management of the Navy's Nuclear
Regulatory Commission (NRC) Master Materials License and administration of the
Naval Radioactive Materials Permit (NRMP) Program to enact the license authority
and the Radiological Affairs Support Program (RASP) to control non-licensed
radioactive materials and machine sources of radiation. Located on the Naval Weapons Station,
Yorktown, Virginia, NAVSEADET RASO offers the benefits of working in a small
office in a beautiful wooded setting on the York River out of the hustle and
bustle of big-city life while still working at the headquarters
level.
About the position: We are looking for an exceptional
individual ready to serve in a regulatory capacity to support the Navy's
Radiation Protection Program.
Organizationally titled Radiation Protection Manager, the position is
responsible for:
* Providing health physics expertise to
Navy and Marine Corps commands with comprehensive radiation protection
programs.
* Providing technical assistance on
personnel and environmental monitoring, contamination control, radiation surveys
and equipment, shielding, radioactive material storage, transportation and
disposal, and operating and emergency procedures.
* Administering and managing NRMPs for
the Naval Radiation Safety Committee (NRSC).
* Representing CNO and COMNAVSEASYSCOM in
the conduct of formal inspections and investigations of radiological incidents.
* Briefing Commanding Officers and senior
officials on compliance with Naval and federal regulations and current health
physic's practices.
* Representing the Navy at professional
meetings with other federal agencies, national standards committees and health
physics professional organizations..

Qualifications: To be eligible, applicants must have the
amounts of general and/or specialized experience required by the published
qualification standards. Applicants
must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade
level. Specialized experience is
experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the
work of the position to be filled.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work that
demonstrates a mastery of the principles, theories and practices of health
physics and radiation safety as applied to the monitoring, control and
management of licensed radioactive material or machines that produce ionizing
radiation.
Special Qualifications/Selective
Certification Factors:
(1) Knowledge of and experience in health
physics and radiation safety.
(2) Ability to manage and evaluate
radiation protection programs.
(3) Ability to communicate radiation
safety concerns to non-technical personnel.
(4) Ability to investigate unique and
complex problems during potentially adverse situations.
(5) Knowledge of Title 10 and Title 49,
Code of Federal Regulations, Radiation Health Handbook, ANSI Standards and NCRP
Reports.
Special Requirements:
1.
Incumbent must qualify for a Secret clearance.
2.
Incumbent will be required to travel 35-50% of the time, including
overseas travel and work at odd hours during travel periods. Travel may be required on short notice
during emergencies.
3.
Incumbent will be required to obtain a government
passport.
4.
Incumbent must have and maintain a valid State driver's
license
