Radsafers: Does the shuttle have DU counterweights like big
airplanes have?
"Big airplanes" have them to dampen flutter
(aerodynamic/structural-coupling-vibrations). I am not knowledgeable of the
shuttle's flight regime' since it is so far beyond anything else flying, but it
is a very "stiff" structure that spends very little of it flight time in the
atmosphere. Even so, why would it matter? DU is just heavy dirt used
for dead weight? The earth is "covered" with it and we do
alright.
