Radiation
laboratory supervisor
The Radiation Laboratory Supervisor is
responsible for radiological measurements associated with decommissioning a rare
earth processing plant and waste storage facility, and constructing a permanent
radwaste disposal site. The three year project is located in
Malaysia. The
primary radionuclides of interest are uranium, thorium, radium and radon. The
media to be analyzed include various waste materials, soil, water, air samples (particulates and
radon), surface contamination wipes, and bioassay samples.
MINIMUM SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong general knowledge of
radiochemical methodology, analytical instrumentation including gamma
spectroscopy, quality control and quality assurance, data validation, basic
radiation protection, ALARA principles, hazard assessment, and design and
implementation of environmental surveys.
Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel effectively,
organize and manage work schedules, apply technical knowledge to practical
laboratory operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A BS degree in engineering, science
or engineering is required. At
least six years work in a radiation measurements laboratory required. At least four years in a supervisory
position desired, preferably in a radiation measurements laboratory An advanced
degree (1 year) or relevant certification (2 years) may be substituted in lieu
of experience. Must have
supervisory experience in quality control/quality assurance for laboratory
measurements, preferably in radiation /radiochemistry. Dose calculation and evaluation
experience, both for workers and the public, are strongly desired. Experience at a NORM or TENORM site is
strongly desirable.
Experience working at heavy construction sites or in
safety engineering (e.g., electrical, chemical, environmental) is a plus.
Must have a working knowledge of computer spreadsheet
and database construction, development, and maintenance. Preferred applications experience in
Excel, Access, Word, and ArcView.
