There's an interesting article on just this concept published in the
"Harvard
Business Review," circa 1980, entitled, "The Marketing of Unmentionables."
It
describes how companies market items that people need but don't want to talk
about. One case involves a company that sold condoms in Great Britain. At
the
time, they were not even allowed to mention the word in an advertisement.
One
of their promotional activities was to sponsor a race car, which they
called,
"The Small Family Car."
I no longer have a copy of this article, and would be greatful if someone
with
access to a university library could find it. Unfortunately, it's probably
the
only way to market nuclear technology.
