Betreff: End of an era in nuclear research

I received this through another list server.

Nuclear era ends at Risø (Mar 25)

http://physicsweb.org/article/news/7/3/14

The Risø National Laboratory in Denmark is about to close an important

chapter in its 40-year history. Under a new law passed this month, about

850 million Danish kroner (about 114 million euros) will be made

available to decommission the lab's nuclear facilities over the next 20

years. Dansk Dekommissionering will carry out the work, with some Risø

staff transferring to the state-owned decommissioning company.

Is there anybody, who knows about the background of shutting down? Lack of fuel? Contracts, that used fuel would not be taken back after 2004 (like it was the case in Austria)? Victory of antinuclear groups over common sense? Where will Danmark get its radiopharmaceuticals from?

Best regards,

Franz
