My computer runs in Mega Hertz and not in Pico
Gates. Perhaps part of the reason why computers are accepted by the public
and anything to do with radiation isn't, is that the computer industry has never
tried to build a wall of unnecessary jargon between it and the
public.
A disintegration per second is something people can
understand. The amount of disintegrations in 1 g of radium isn't.
(Especially since Americans don't know what a gram
is. If it was defined as the number of disintegrations in an ounce or a
bushel of radium - THEN it would be intuitive. Everyone could just go to their
fridge, look at their 10 oz jar of radium and get an instant feel for
it.)
