The article on the MIT reactor is also at

http://www.sfbg.com/37/27/x_techsploitation.html.

The author of the story, Annalee Newitz, is a 2002-03 Knight Science

Journalism Fellow at MIT

(http://web.mit.edu/knight-science/fellows/2002_fellows.html), and

culture editor for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, an alternative

weekly. She's listed as having a PhD in English and American Studies

from Berkeley; her dissertation was on images of monsters, psychopaths,

and capitalism in 20th Century American pop culture

(http://www.techsploitation.com/socrates/longdiss.html). Newitz has

a short autobiography at http://www.techsploitation.com/about/, where

her posted name includes the subtitle - "technology, pop culture, sex".

Given what Newitz writes in the article, one wonders if she sees any

difference.
