Betreff: Los Angeles gets radiation detectors

Here's an excellent article from Wednesday's San Diego Union-Trib. Good

PR for the HPS as well. Thanks to those folks who have worked tirelessly

to make these CDV instruments available to teachers, and now for first

responders.

Thank you for this information.

Our fire brigades, the military and similar organisations have been equipped

in Austria since decades with radiation detection devices. They have been

trained to find radioactive sources, to fence off the area around the

sources found, etc. This has proved to be very beneficial, because in a few

cases (lost radiography sources, deliberate spillage of radionuclides etc.)

it was needed. What I wonder is, whether there are any regulations as to the

maximum permissible doses to persons engaged in interventions - maybe the

technical term is "first responders".

Thank you for responses!

Franz
