RE: Bernie Cohen's Reward Offer

Dear Richard,

You wrote:

"Isn't the major argument here really about the validity of LNT as the basis

for developing nuclear safety regulations and the side-argument about the

validity of ALARA?

This approach and these assumptions are said to increase costs in both

nuclear and non-nuclear fields."

And you are right on both counts! The real reason why Bernie is treated so

shabbily is of course that his data disprove the LNT and, therefore, make

the

ALARA philosophy useless below the minimum significant risk that Joe and I

defined almost 10 years ago! That is what Joe Alvarez and I have

demonstrated

and then reiterated in the two papers I mentionned. Our conclusion is very

simple: If you want to make a risk prediction for a large number of, let us

say,

average Americans, then you have to take Bernie's raw data and that is by no

means linear. Q.E.D.

Best regards

   Fritz
