Betreff: Nuclear-powered oil tankers?

I found this news story intriguing:

An idea being mooted in Russia to turn aging nuclear submarines into oil

tankers raises fears in Norway. Anatoly Yefremov, the governor of the

Archangelsk region, suggested that Typhoon submarines could be refitted to

carry 10,000 tons of oil if their missile launch rooms were converted into

tanks.

---------------------------------------

The European Union has decided recently that in the near future only tankers

with double hull will be allowed to sail in EU waters. Do submarine have

double hulls? Not to talk about the other specifics for oil tankers like

fire prevention and fighting. What about the amount of oil to be carried

compared to a "conventional" above-surface oil tanker, whether powered by

nuclear power or diesel?

Funny story anyway....
