POSITION TYPE:Managerial
POSITION TITLE: Radiation Safety Program Manager & Health Physics
Specialist, HU-15 Salary commensurate with experience
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Directs, develops and maintains a comprehensive
radiological safety program at Howard University and Hospital to ensure a
healthy environment for patients, researchers, employees, visitors and
students. Establishes
protocols that confirm performance of radiation safety activities in
accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements in the daily
operation of Howard University and Hospital's byproduct material and
ionizing radiation program.
These functions are performed consonant with all applicable
District of Columbia and Federal laws and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) regulations and the University and Hospital's philosophy, policies,
procedures and standards. Provides direction and leadership for formulation
and application
of a specific program to manage radiation hazards. Performs other
job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Post Master's
Degree training and certification in a relevant field of science
pertinent to work unit and one year of full time experience as a
Radiation Safety Technologist at a medical institution under the
supervision of the individual identified as the Radiation Safety
Officer on a Commission or Agreement State license that
authorizes the medical use of byproduct material; OR is an
authorized user identified on the licensee's license. Certification
by the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine or other
relevant professional certification. Classroom and laboratory
training and experience as follows: 200 hours of classroom and
laboratory training that includes Radiation physics and
instrumentation; Radiation Protection; Mathematics pertaining to
the use and measurement of radioactivity; Radiation biology; and
Radiopharmaceutical chemistry. Five or more years of related
administrative experience; OR, any equivalent combination of
experience, training and/or education approved by Human
Resource Management.
