Creatinine is excreted at a fairly steady rate, therefore the amount of 

creatinine in a urine specimen can be used to estimate the duration of 

the urine specimen.  This can then be used along with uranium analysis 

to determine the uranium excretion rate.  That is the value that the 

bioassay is supposed to determine.  The alternative is to time the 

excretions and use that to determine the excretion rate.  Both 

techniques are subject to error.
