RE: X-ray of pregnant patients
The NRC Reg Guide is 8.13, web site as follows:
http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/reg-guides/occupational-health
/active/8-13/
Although it is for radioactive materials, there may be some general
information of use in it.
Each State may also have some literature, I know Oregon does. However, like
the NRC's it may be for radioactive materials.

Linda,
I don't know of any ready-made pamplets, but I very highly recommend
"Exposure of
the Pregnant Patient to Diagnostic Radiations" by Wagner et al.
A short chapter in the book is devoted to counseling the patient in exactly
this sort of
situation, and the pros/cons of either MRI or US as alternatives. Give me a
call if you
would like further details.

Are there any pamplets available with information on radiation
exposure to a fetus or would anyone be willing to share with me the
information that you give to a pregnant patient when the physician
ordering the x-ray exam says "Yes, I know that she is pregnant but
need this exam <lumbar spine?> anyway"? We are in the age of informed
consent and I would like to be able to hand the patient some
information and have the patient sign that she read it and consents to
the exam.
Thank you
