employment opening for a Laboratory Safety Officer. Please share the

POSITION: Laboratory Safety Officer; Environmental Health & Safety 

Office; Date of Posting: 7/29/03; Announcement Number: 03-07-10.

JOB SUMMARY: The Laboratory Safety Officer reports to the Environment, 

Health and Safety Manager and assists with developing, implementing, and 

overseeing radiation safety, biosafety, and waste management programs. 

Serves as the assistant radiation safety officer and assistant 

biological safety officer. Conducts training, inspections, 

surveys/monitoring, record keeping, inventory control, and related 

duties as required. Responds to concerns and emergencies. Participates 

in safety committee meetings. Evaluates and implements exposure controls.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in science or engineering preferred. A 

minimum of three years of related experience in an academic or research 

organization preferred. Ability to work independently with minimum 

supervision and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing 

required. Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with 

computers, computer databases, and on-line training systems preferred.
