Feds end radioactivity monitoring

Hi RadSafers,



Can someone tell me what the program that the feds ended actually did? 

I have an Aug. 29 news brief that says in part:



"The Bush administration is eliminating a small DOE program that 

monitors radioactive materials at federal sites....



"DOE said the program has been discontinued because it finished its work....



"The Nuclear Materials Stewardship Program was set up to monitor and 

dispose of surplus nuclear materials, including plutonium and uranium."



Thanks for any info on this.
