What is "extra" or "excess" radiation exposure?  My first hip prosthesis was checked with seven pelvic x-rays; my fourth with one.  Someone (not me; hospital "policy") decided that seven was too many but one was OK, though I would have cheerfully opted for the seven, since I have enough confidence in my surgeon to feel certain the seven were not excessive.



Certainly external exposure that is at least two orders of magnitude smaller that an x-ray would not be considered excessive.
