Article: Radioactive waste falls from truck, stalls traffic

I apologize if this has already been posted. I have been off the list for several weeks while traveling on business.

Be interested to know what the "waste" was, and if it was really waste.

A north Houston intersection was closed for several hours today when a vessel containing radioactive waste accidentally fell off the back of a truck, Houston Fire Department officials said.

None of the radioactive material leaked, and no injuries were reported after the incident happened at Imperial Valley and Greens Road just before 1 p.m., officials said.

Because the vessel weighed more than 300 pounds, reloading it on the same truck took some time, officials said.

The incident never posed a danger to the public, said Houston Fire Department spokesman Jay Evans. The intersection was impassable for several hours as city and state officials and hazardous materials teams investigated.
