RE: Posting and Monitoring Requirements @ DOE Facilities

In most cases, a "control" or background TLD is used to establish the accrued dose for the area in which the personnel in question will spend the majority of their time. Also routine radiological surveys of areas are used to establish the baseline and identify any trends or changes in conditions. Personnel who have no chance of picking up the 100mr set point, can then go without monitoring until such time as their respective occupation location changes or the conditions in the area they currently occupy change. Unmonitored personnel are forbade access into areas where it is possible to pick the 100mr/yr limit via postings and/or access restrictions. Each quarter the area TLD's are changed out and read. Unless an upward trend is observed, unmonitored occupation is allowed to continue.

Subject: Posting and Monitoring Requirements @ DOE Facilities

10 CFR 832.402 requires personnel monitoring for people who could

exceed 100 mrem/year.

How does your site ensure the unmonitored personnel do not exceed

the 100 mrem/year requirement?

Please mention any postings and their criteria.
