on topic/off topic

Let's all do our best to ensure that anything we send to Radsafe has

something to do with the topic of radiation safety. You will notice that

I do not pounce on every infraction of list policy, having to do with

being on topic or having to do with politeness and professional

courtesy. If something off-topic is posted here and there, I try to let

it go, and only jump in if a thread goes on for a number of posts in an

off-topic area. I will pounce immediately on severely impolite comments,

but even that I try to do off list, privately with the individual,

unless a major point of list policy is involved. Any commercial postings

are also immediately reacted to.

I generally also discourage lots of posts to the list complaining about

off-topic or offensive comments; this only serves to prolong the issue.

A private email to the person or to me will probably be more effective

in the long run, if you feel that you can't just ignore it.

A holiday season suggestion from your humble moderator - rise above the

minor irritations of life, remember how doggone good you have it, paste

a big smile on that beautiful face of yours and go see if you can pass

it on to someone else. Give to one of your local charities and feel

really good about it. Best wishes to all.
